Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. The young woman was just a toddler when her father who was a carnival barker died. Her mother was forced to take on jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth attended the school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. But she only stayed in school for a couple of years, then going on to pursue an acting profession. The path she chose to take turned out to be strewn with obstacles: in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime However, the stage was not a match for her. She then worked as an hat-checker at the nightclub before calling it quits and returning to Boston. In Boston, when she worked at night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. Also, she studied drama. She later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
